The Second World War divided the history of mankind into BEFORE and AFTER. It was a tragic and at the same time the greatest event in its significance. It gave rise to modern global civilization on the ruins of colonialism.
For the European people, this war was also the greatest drama in its history. New democracies, young and not yet strong, could not withstand the onslaught of reactionary revanchists and fell under the onslaught of demagogues and populists, who subsequently led their countries to disaster. But we must admit one fact – democracy then fell everywhere, almost throughout whole Europe. Moreover, in many countries, the totalitarian coup occurred earlier than in others.
Throughout the 19th century in Europe there was a struggle between popular movements and absolutism. The result of these contradictions was the First World War, in which, as it seemed, the democratic, liberal forces won. All the then empires fell and a New Europe emerged, consisting of democratic nation-states. Is it only in Russia that tsarism was replaced by another dictatorship – the Bolshevik one. But, as you know, Russia has always stood somewhat apart from the pan-European path.
But, as it turned out, it was too early for Europe to rejoice. As the great Hegel taught, the thesis always generates its antithesis. The world after the First World War, born of the dialectical rejection of absolute monarchies by liberalism, gave rise to its own opposition – nationalist, revanchist. A wave of fascism swept across Europe during the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. This led to World War II.
When fascism was defeated in 1945, a New Europe was born. Its flagship was European Union, democratic and successful, having learned all possible lessons from both world wars. It was EU that led the fight against the Bolshevik Evil Empire, becoming the architect of New Europe and one of the main members of NATO. One of the symbols of EU, as the vanguard of the fight against totalitarianism, was the phrase of John F. Kennedy – “I am a Berliner.” It was in Berlin in 1989 that the back of totalitarianism was broken, which paved the way for the unification of Germany and the liberation of Eastern Europe.
For more than 70 years, the main subject of united Europe has been a free european citizen. It is in him/her, a modern european, that all the most valuable experience of the past era has been accumulated. This experience is expressed mainly in the historical memory about previous generations. It is all the more important that this memory be expressed in real physical artifacts, “places of memory”. They are the symbolic and physical storage of the memory of the past, which formed the values of the present, achieved at such a high price.
We, the “Mother’s Tears” company, consider it necessary to create a large memorial complex on the territory of Georgia, as a place of memory for present generations about the events of the last century that changed the course of world history.

Dear friends!
We have to be contemporaries of extremely dramatic, perhaps the most dramatic events in the history of the Earth. The world is on the verge of a catastrophe, both civilizational and environmental. There is not a single region of the world left that would not be affected by the current cataclysms – wars, the threat of the use of nuclear weapons, epidemics, natural disasters. Right now, more than ever, global civilization needs examples of humanism and the unity of the bright, progressive forces of all humanity.
It is for this purpose that the Mother’s Tears charitable foundation is implementing a project to build a network of memorials “Abode of Heroes” both throughout Georgia and in the future throughout the world. The duty of every democratic country is to support and fully facilitate the implementation of this project, designed to become the banner of world peace, global political and environmental security.
We invite you, friends, to become part of the ‘Abode of Heroes’ project! It is impossible to stand aside at this moment in history, because the fate of future generations is at stake!
